Welcome to Camp George!
What is Camp George? URJ Camp George is the Reform Movement’s only Canadian camp. Since 1999 Camp George has offered the best in Reform Jewish Camping blended with the experience and tradition of an Ontario residential camp experience. Everyone has a place at Camp George. We take pride in letting campers be themselves at Camp. We strive to make sure that every child feels welcomed and supported.
What makes Camp George unique? We are guided by our mission that URJ Camp George is a Reform Jewish camp that nurtures Jewish identity, knowledge and values through a fun and immersive summer camp experience that transforms lives, building community within and beyond its borders. We strive always to maintain and grow Camp George as a safe space where we respect and celebrate everyone’s ways of identifying themselves, as we are all made b’tzelem Elohim, in the image of God.
What happens at Camp? Camp is transformative! Our campers participate in activities and programs that builds skills, develops lifelong friendships, and connects them to amazing staff that who are role models, living Jewish values-not just teaching them. Campers participate in a wide range of recreational activities like athletics, arts, adventure, and waterfront. Campers live in an immersive Jewish community allowing them to see the world through a Jewish lens, helping to strengthen their Jewish identity and living Jewish values each and every day.
What if our family isn’t deeply involved in Jewish life? Campers come to us from a variety of Jewish backgrounds. Some children come from families who are very involved in their synagogues, and some do not. Some families belong to Reform congregations while others affiliate with a diverse range of other denominations. Some children attend Jewish Day Schools, and some attend supplementary Religious School. Some of our campers don’t go to religious school. Camp George is a welcoming community for interfaith and other diverse families who have made Jewish choices for their children Regardless of one’s involvement or affiliation, our campers learn what they don’t know, and embrace what they do know. Living in an immersive Jewish community offers all of our campers the opportunity to strengthen their Jewish identities while learning more about Judaism.
What if my camper requires extra support ? Our Community Care Team is made up of professionals who work both year round and on site to ensure that campers who might require additional support, have what they need to be successful at camp. We view camp as a partnership between us and our families. The more information we have about each child, the better able we are to support them and the staff working with them. We can accommodate various needs and exceptionalities, including dietary needs. See our community care page for more information on extra support
