Check our our interview with Rosh Barak Shelby Rubin in the blog below! Welcome back Shelby!

Tell us about your background at camp.

“My first summer at George was in 2011 as a Kochavim camper. Since then, I have been a Barak camper, a C.I.T., and spent four summers on staff as a counselor in Kochavim and Barak.”

What are you looking forward to this summer?

“After spending my first summer away from camp in nine years (last summer), I’m definitely looking forward to being back on Maple Lake. I am extremely eager to be in a leadership position and work with all of the Barak staff and campers. As all of my former campers are now staff, I’m excited to watch them build relationships with their own campers – L’dor va’dor! A group of the Hanhallah (senior leadership team) were my cabinmates growing up and are still some of my best friends, so I cannot wait to all be back together in the place we love most.”

What do you do outside of camp?

“I am currently wrapping up my fourth and final year at Western University, where I major in Media and the Public Interest. I’m hoping to pursue a Masters of Journalism in September.”

You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick?

“My go-to karaoke song is Sweet Caroline (unless it’s at camp, then I’m loyal to Taylor Swift’s Love Story.)”

If you had to eat one camp meal everyday for the rest of your life what would it be?

“If I had to eat one camp meal every day it would probably be Friday pizza bagels but only with ranch from the salad bar.”

What is one thing people might not know about you?

“One thing people don’t know about me is I took drum lessons as a kid! I truly don’t remember anything though, so don’t expect to see me performing at any Shabbat Idol or Super Spesh Song Sesh this summer.”
