Hi Camp George! I am so excited to be sharing my first blog post as the summer 2019 assistant unit head for Lehavot!

This is going to be my 13th summer on Maple Lake and I couldn’t be more excited. I started out as a small 8 year-old camper knowing no other kids my age. My first time at Camp George, everything was new, like trying to figure out how to fall asleep without being in my familiar bed back in Michigan. I kept coming back year after year because once I got home the homesickness turned into camp sickness and the countdown until I was able to be reunited with my camp family began. 3 years ago I started to be able to create the camp magic that keeps pulling me back to camp for all the young campers who are either just starting or have already been at camp for a couple of summers. I am so excited to be able to take on a different role at camp and not only be a leader for a cabin but for all of Lehavot.

Camp has become such a major part of my life not only in Parry Sound but at home too. My 9 years as a camper and 3 years as a staff has taught me so much about myself and how to be more independent. I went from being a shy little girl who barely talked to people outside of the cabin to being an extremely independent person and a leader of within the camp community. Not only have I been able to change within myself, but I hope I have been able to create the magical camp environment for my campers that my staff was able to give to me. I have been able to be a role model to my Nitzotzot and Lehavot aged campers and I have been able to sort of become a younger camper again! I think I might dance and sing around the cabin more than the campers!

Outside of camp, I just finished up my sophomore year at the University of Michigan. I am majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience, which is basically just a fancy sounding psychology major. I am minoring in crime and justice, and history! My goal after college is to hopefully get my Ph.D. in Psychology and begin a career in forensic psychology. Something I have come to realize about myself over the past three years of me being a staff member is that I love helping people and seeing people get through tough experiences, which is why I want to help people for a living! I cannot wait to spend another summer on the beautiful Maple Lake, surrounded by my camp family! Can’t wait to see everyone there!
