From Camper to Dean of Jewish Living: My Journey Back to Camp George
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Byrne-Wolfson and I’m so excited to share with you my new role as Dean of Jewish Living at URJ Camp George for Summer 2025!
For you returning families out there, you and I might already be acquainted from my summers in other roles at George. I’ve been a songleader, a drama staff, a Kochavim counsellor, and a member of Hanhallah across my years as staff. Camp George played a huge role in my childhood and early professional life, which is why I’m thrilled to return to this community and bring my skills as a Rabbi-In-Training to our campers and staff.
Looking ahead to Summer 2025, we have so much to get excited about already. Part of my Rabbinical training at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion has been working with amazing educators and Jewish youth across miles and borders, which has only made me appreciate the special environment at George more. Camp allows our kids to embrace their Jewish identities in a safe, relaxed, and fun space and as a former camper and counsellor, I know how important my Jewish engagement at George was for my development into a Jewish professional. It’s going to be a joy to reflect that spirit back to the community that empowers our kids to stake their claim in the Jewish world. I look forward to helping them take it by storm.
See you soon ( but not soon enough)!
Hannah Byrne-Wolfson
