Introducing The CG Interns – Halle & Ashley
Halle:
Hi, Camp George community! I’m Halle Burke, and I’m beyond excited to introduce myself as one of this year’s CG interns. Camp has been my home away from home for as long as I can remember, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to give back in a whole new way this year!
My love for Camp George started from my very first summer as a camper in Nitz. Over the years, I’ve not only grown up here but met some of my closest friends – friendships so strong that we’re now even living together at university! Camp George isn’t just a place I go for a few weeks in the summer; it’s where I’ve found a true sense of family and belonging. Fast forward a few years, and I’m now a fourth-year staff member with tons of incredible experiences. My time on staff has been filled with meaningful roles, from working on sail to stepping up as Head of Sail this past summer. Sailing at George is more than just a job; it’s where I’ve had some of my best camp moments, and it’s truly special to help campers connect with Maple Lake.
Another unforgettable part of my time here was serving as a CIT staff member. It gave me a chance to mentor the next generation of Camp George leaders and share my passion for this place. Camp George isn’t just a summer experience for me – it’s a family and a community I’ve grown up with, and it’s where my sister grew up too. I’ve learned so much about myself here, and every summer feels like coming home. It has always been more than just a summer experience; it’s the place where I feel closest to my Jewish identity and my community. From celebrating Shabbat to learning about Jewish values together, camp has deepened my connection to my heritage and the Jewish community I hold close to my heart.
Outside of camp, I’m studying in a concurrent education program, and one of the requirements is completing a placement. I knew right away that I wanted to do my placement at Camp George, where I could combine my love for camp with the skills I’m developing for my future career in education. I couldn’t be happier to take on this role as an intern! This year, I’ll be working on all kinds of projects, from camper and staff outreach to administrative work, and every day brings something new.
Being a CG intern feels like the perfect way to give back to the place that’s given me so much. I’m so excited to connect with the camp community year-round and help make each summer as magical as the ones I’ve had growing up here. Thank you, Camp George, for being my second home, my family, and the best place in the world. Here’s to another amazing year together!
See you around, Halle Burke
Ashley:
Hi Camp George community!
I’m Ashley Shulman, one of the CG interns this year, and I’m so excited to share my journey with Camp George. For as long as I can remember, CG has been my home away from home, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the chance to give back to a place that’s shaped so much of who I am. Growing up here has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life. Camp George isn’t just a summer camp to me—it’s truly my second home, a place where I’ve made some of my closest friends and created memories that will last a lifetime. What I love most about CG is how it makes you feel truly seen and valued; from the moment you arrive, you become part of a community that embraces everyone and encourages each of us to be our most authentic selves. A big part of my camp experience has been my role as swim staff. Spending summers on the docks, leading swim classes, and connecting with campers in a space that’s all about fun, safety, and growth has been incredibly fulfilling. I absolutely love being by the water, and every day by the lake brings a new sense of adventure. Returning as Head of Swim this past summer was an amazing experience—not just for teaching swimming skills but for building confidence, making connections, and helping every camper feel a sense of accomplishment. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create these kinds of memories for others, just like the ones that made me fall in love with CG.
Outside of camp, I’m studying in a concurrent education program, where I’m preparing for a career in education. One of my program requirements is completing a placement, and I knew right away that I wanted to do mine at CG, where I could blend my love for camp with the skills I’m developing in education. This internship is the perfect fit, allowing me to work on camper and staff outreach, administrative projects, and event planning. Each day, I’m learning more about what goes into making CG a place where everyone feels at home. As an intern, I’m gaining a new perspective on all the hard work and planning that makes each summer so magical. It’s inspiring to see how every detail is thought out with campers in mind, and I’m excited to be a part of making this year special for everyone. CG isn’t just a camp to me – it’s a community that’s shaped who I am and helped me connect with my Jewish identity in meaningful ways. I’m so grateful to be part of it and to have this opportunity to give back to the community that’s given me so much. Here’s to another incredible summer at CG!
