Why We Love Camp George

It’s hard to describe why we love camp in a blog post but we’re going to try. Camp George is a great place where campers turn into the next leaders of camp. We have been going here for 9 years and we love this place so much.

We’re going to start off with the staff. At camp your staff are like your role models or older siblings who guide you along your camp journey. They make sure you go to periods and are on time for activities but also make sure that you are feeling okay and that you’re happy. The staff also know how to make your summer fun because they have been campers before and know what you want in your summer. Staff also make sure you step out of your comfort zone and try new things and face your fears.

Next, we are going to talk about the relationships you build with your cabinmates. Through the years you are always with the same cabinmates at camp. These cabinmates go from strangers to friends to family. You see each other at home and check in on each other throughout the year. With your cabin mates you do many of camps activities and rituals.

These things shape you into a new person. A person with more responsibility and maturity. Camp is also a great place to broaden your Jewish background and history. Camp does this by having services mostly every day and having fun activities involving Jewish learning every other day. After our 9 years at camp, we can’t wait to expand our responsibilities.

Next year we are CITs (Counselors-In-Training). When you are a CIT, you help out on activity areas and get assigned to cabins where you can help staff control the cabins and become a role model for the campers. We can’t wait to be CITs so we can be the next leaders of URJ Camp George.
