Camp is a transformative space. It creates friendships and meaningful relationships with peers in the same community for life. There is no question that camp has changed my life, learning new skills, and being part of a Jewish community. I have been going to camp for 14 summers, seven summers as a camper and seven as a staff member. I recall and am still in touch with my counselors while I was in the youngest unit at camp. I am now connecting with my former campers as they start to become staff of their own campers.

Camp is a transformational place and it sometimes requires new spaces, new areas to learn and build skills and spaces to overcome weather challenges. In 2013 camp introduced the new basketball courts, which added so much to our camp. Giving us not only a new specialty area but additionally a new place to gather as a camp community, as one. At our song sessions this past summer under the dusk and on the courts, I realized that new spaces create new opportunities to grow as a community. New spaces create opportunities to bond and create new lifelong memories. Having the Pavilion on camp would create these opportunities and more.

As a former unit head, I know the challenges that have risen trying to implement activities because of our programming space challenges. As the director of sports, I couldn’t have dreamed for a space like this more often. Weather can be unpredictable up north and shouldn’t be a factor in our decisions of what we are able to do. As a camper I would appreciate the incredible new space and want to utilize it constantly.

Every year camp makes changes to benefit the community. With the help of our community members we are getting very close to our fundraising goal and to the start of construction. I believe that no camp is like Camp George. No place can have an impact on so many people for their entire lives like this place. When you think about donating, think about the impact camp can have on people, just like it did for me. I would attend camp for my entire life if I was able to. The Pavilion will add so much to our programming for the next generation of campers and for our entire community.

Whatever you give or pledge, you will be part of our future. Name a Banner that hangs in the Pavilion for $1,800 (all at once or over three years), name Seating for $540, name a Path Stone in our pathway for $180. Go ahead, name multiple stones or seating or banners to honour or memorialize or celebrate. Make your mark; help us meet our goal and Build our Jewish Future Together at Camp George.
