Hey Camp George! I am so excited to be returning to camp this summer as the Barak Assistant Unit Head. Camp George has been my summer home for the past 10 summers and I cannot wait to spend another one on Maple Lake with all of you!

Although I wish I could spend 365 days a year at camp, I spend my year studying Psychology at Ryerson University. My plan is to go into teaching once I have finished my undergrad. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher and being a counselor at camp only made these feelings grow stronger.

It all started for me back in 2009 when I walked off the bus as a little Lehavot camper; my two weeks at Camp George was a great introduction to camp life. I was so nervous initially but I got over that quickly! Camp was amazing. I loved everything about camp, especially all the friends I made, and I came home knowing that Camp George was always going to be a very special place for me. I began to count down the days until the next summer and I have been doing that every single summer since then.

I truly feel I am who I am today because of the lessons and values I have learned from attending Camp George for the past ten summers. As a camper I idolized my staff, and I anxiously awaited the day that I could have campers of my own so that I could give them the same experiences that I had. The past three summers on staff have been the most rewarding and memorable experiences and I cannot wait to take on my new role for this summer. For the last 2 summers, I have been a Barak counselor so I am thrilled to be getting to work with Barak campers and staff again this summer. Being part of the Barak unit is extra special to me because my time as a Barak camper were some of the best summers I’ve had. These were the summers that I made memories that I know will last a lifetime and strengthened my friendships with both my cabin mates and everyone in the unit. I am looking forward to helping the Barak campers have the best summer yet!

I never felt as immediately at home in any other place as I did when I arrived at the camp in 2009. Camp is my home away from home and it is where I feel most comfortable in my own skin. Whether it’s singing at the top of my lungs during song sesh, swimming in maple lake, cheering in the Chadar or doing any of the various activities, there is not anything else that I’d rather be doing every summer from this day until forever. Camp George has really fostered my Jewish identity and I could not be more grateful for this. There is no place in the world quite like Camp George. I can’t wait to see you all on maple lake in just a few weeks!
