Today we’re continuing our ongoing blog series with our summer 2018 leadership staff, or as we call them Hanhallah. Each blog will feature 20 questions in honour of our upcoming 20th summer. Read on below for our interview with Nitzotzot Unit Head Erin Silverberg.

 

Question #1: What are your goals for summer 2018?

Erin: “To work with my staff in creating the most magical summer for their campers!”

Question #2: What are you most excited about for your role at camp?

Erin: “I get to work with many campers who are experiencing camp for the first time and many staff who are experiencing being a staff for the first time. It can be challenging at times, but it is also super exciting!”

Question #3: What’s your life motto, or philosophy you live by?

Erin: “Be honest, be kind.”

Question #4: Favourite part of Maccabiah/colour war?

Erin: “Seeing all the decorations in the Chadar and opening and closing ceremonies!”

Question #5: All time best camp memory?

Erin: “It’s hard to choose just one, but the last night of summer 2016 was very special to me. We had a final unit bonfire and sang camp songs and reflected on what an amazing summer it had been.”

Question #6: What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Erin: “A camp counselor! Glad to say I’ve accomplished that dream.”

Question #7: What are your favorite hobbies?

Erin: “Reading, watching tv, going on walks and runs, and spending time with friends and family.”

Question #8: If you could live in a book, TV Show or movie, what would it be?

Erin: “I would love to live in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory! It would be delicious.”

Question #9: What animal best represents you and why?

Erin: “An otter. They’re like puppies, but they love to swim!”

Question #10: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

Erin: “I would love to be able to teleport or fly so I could travel anywhere in the world.”

Question #11: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Erin: “Hanukkah! My family throws a big party and I get to see lots of family and friends I don’t see very often. Plus latkes are the best.”

Question #12: Do you have any siblings? What are they like?

Erin: “I have a younger brother. He’s volunteering in South Africa right now and I miss him a lot!”

Question #13: What outdoor activities do you like to do?

Erin: “Running, hiking, stargazing, and swimming!”

Question # 14: What is something you love doing? Why?

Erin: “I love reading! I love how books can take you to new places, introduce you to new people, and change the way you see the world.”

Question #15: What was your favorite book growing up?

Erin: “Definitely the Harry Potter series. I’ve read each book 7 times.”

Question #16: What makes a good camp friend?

Erin: “Someone that is always down for fun adventures, that is always there to give you hugs and listen when you are having a problem, and that you can be yourself around.”

Question #17: What is your favourite camp tradition?

Erin: “Shabbat walks. I have many special memories from them.”

Question #18: What’s on your bucket list this year?

Erin: “Backpack Southeast Asia! I am planning on going to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos this year before camp.”

Question #19: What are you grateful for?

Erin: “I have the most amazing friends and family.”

Question #20: What are some small things that make your day better?

Erin: “A good cup of coffee, snuggles with my friend’s bunny, Poppy, a big bowl of mac n cheese, and laughing with my friends.”
