Ruby had a fantastic first summer at Camp George and can’t wait to return for another. She first heard about Camp from her friend, Hannah. They go to school together and Hannah would always talk to Ruby about the fun she has at Camp George.

This was Ruby’s first overnight camp experience. She was very excited about the chance to try many new activities including ropes, water skiing and archery. At water skiing, Ruby got to try the ‘boom’ and then moved on to the long rope.

Archery, though, was her favourite new activity!

Ruby also really enjoyed going to meals – who doesn’t like a good camp meal? Ruby liked almost all the food, but especially the garlic bread. It was also a time when everyone at camp would be together, and she could even get her picture taken by members of the Camp George faculty.

Time in the cabin was also a lot of fun for Ruby. She really enjoyed living with ‘so many other people’. Although she had many sleepovers, she had never slept in such a ‘big space’. A favorite cabin routine was at bedtime when her counselors would put on the Christopher Robin song, ‘Pooh Corner’ for everyone to sing along. Ruby has continued this tradition at her cottage with her family.

Ruby is so excited about returning for her second summer at Camp. She also has some advice for those who are going to overnight camp for their first time; don’t be nervous about sleeping away from your family. You get used to it and don’t miss them too much.’ Ruby’s last word of advice is that ‘you’ll really like getting the tuck treats’. How about that for Ruby’s ‘Words of Wisdom’?

Ruby’s Mom, Sherry, shared that it was so nice to see and experience Camp on Visitors’ Day, what a nice community. She thought it was so nice that her counselors all wanted Ruby to stay. From one fantastic summer to the next – Ruby can’t wait to create new memories and reconnect with her Camp friends this summer.
