We have had an action- packed week full of amazing programming. After a meaningful pride Shabbat last weekend, our community seemed even closer as we began another new an exciting week at camp.
This week we had a fantastic time celebrating a Monsters Inc.-themed Maccabiah. It’s always awesome to see campers form new connections with their teammates. Campers showed excellent teamwork during the George Team Relay and lots of ruach as they cheered the day away! A special congrats to the yorange team on their victory! We also hosted an arts inter-camp program with Camp Shalom and welcomed Sarah, an artist-in-residence who worked with our campers on slam poetry. Campers also had the opportunity to make soup in partnership with an organization called Soup Sisters, that was then donated to Esprit Place shelter in Parry Sound.
This weekend, we are looking forward to many community events that we are hosting. Earlier this afternoon, we welcomed members of our Steering Committee to camp to celebrate Shabbat with us. Tomorrow, we are welcoming Jewish educators and leaders including April Baskin, URJ Vice President of Audacious Hospitality, for our community Shabbat event. We look forward to offering a variety of workshops for our guests, centered on the concept of effective youth engagement. Our C.I.T.’s have been working hard to plan Shabbat limmudim and we look forward to seeing their leadership and teaching skills in action.
Tomorrow we welcome members of our alumni community for our annual Alumni Day, and on Sunday, we are welcoming family and friends for Visitor’s Day! We are very excited to share the magic of camp with so many community members.
Here’s a sneak peek at what our units have been up to:
Nitzotzot: Our youngest unit was so excited to welcome our Mini Mensch extension campers! We are so glad you joined us. Nitzotzot had a great time at their beach night party and today they enjoyed a special super hero Cornerstone program.
Lehavot: This week in Lehavot, campers enjoyed bunk night programs, a unit camper and L2 even had a pyjama night dinner!
Kochavim: While the Kochavim boys headed to Gan Matan for their overnight, the girls participated in a special bonding program about body image. Together, the whole unit enjoyed a classic camp game of Stones!
Barak: Barak welcomed back their canoe trip participants! I am sure they have a lot of stories to share! This week, Barak also enjoyed a unit game of Stones and participated in a special Cornerstone program about gossiping where they learned the importance of being good to each other.
C.I.T.’s: After running a fantastic Maccabiah, our C.I.T.’s are on their last placements of the summer!! Tomorrow they will put their skills to use as they run our Shabbat limmudim.
Looking forward to the week ahead, on Monday August 14th, Camp George will be participating in our Second Session B’libenu move-a-ton! Campers have the option of running or walking a 1km, 2.5 km or 5km route throughout camp. The goal behind this event is to emphasize the importance of healthy active living. In honour of our move-a-thon, we are asking you to sponsor your child(ren) by making a donation to support health and wellness at camp. Make a donation online by going to https://campgeorge.org/give. Your tax-deductible charitable donation will be directed towards our new Health and Wellness Centre. Connecting to health and wellness within our global community, a portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Save A Child’s Heart, an Israeli based organization that provides free lifesaving surgeries to children in developing countries. We were thrilled to raise over $2000 last session as a result of this event.
You can also support your camper by Tweeting messages of support by using the hashtag – #CGblibenu. Please Tweet on Monday August 14th by 1PM, so that we can share your Tweets on our screen in the dining hall at lunchtime! Thank-you in advance for your support!
