Camp George Baseball Competes at the Intercamp Classic!

Playing baseball in the middle of summer, with the lake over our shoulders, the smell of hot dogs and sunscreen in the air, the sound of cracking bats, caught balls, and arguing with the umpires remains ones of the best combined images a person could think of!  Playing baseball at Camp George is one of my most cherished memories and it’s become quite the CG thing in the last few years!  Who reading this has played in the Staff versus CIT Shabbat game?  Who played in the Pink Sox?

We all know how special Camp George is and of course, we also know how special the camping movement is in general. It is a great privilege to be able to go to camp – and there are a lot of kids out there who need support in order to make their camping dreams a reality. To assist in helping kids go to camps, a combination of Camp George Alumni as well as current staff have come together and are helping raise money through a charity baseball tournament – The Intercamp Classic.   This year Camp George will be sending not one, but two teams to compete!

The Intercamp Classic brings together camp teams from similar camps across Ontario. Proceeds from the event benefit a charity called Kids In Camp – which subsidizes camping fees for families who otherwise could not afford to give their children a summer camp experience.

It is a great honor that I, along with people who fondly share my CG baseball memories, have gathered together to play under the banner of Camp George, in the spirit of Gimilut Chasadim, helping others go to camp.  It is great to be a part of a strong alumni community that is still connected to camp and willing to do mitzvoth on their behalf.

So if you’re looking for a taste of camp – look no further- come out to this great event, reminisce about the classic Shabbat afternoon baseball games, and most of all support a fantastic event!  The Intercamp Classic will be held on Sunday May 6th 2012 at Powerade Center (7575 Kennedy Road South, Brampton, ON).

See you on the field!
