Hello from Maple Lake!

We have had an action-packed week full of amazing programming. After a meaningful Pride Shabbat last weekend, our community seemed even closer as we began another new and exciting week at camp.

This week, we had a fantastic time in and around Maple Lake. Campers had a lot of fun in cabin-themed days, including a Raptors day and Beach Day. We also welcomed our Mini Mensch Extension campers into our Nitzotzot unit.

This weekend, we are looking forward to the many community events that we are hosting. Earlier this afternoon, we welcomed members of our Camp Council who celebrated Shabbat with us. Tomorrow, we are welcoming Jewish educators and community lay leaders for our annual Community Shabbat. Our CIT’s have been working hard to plan Shabbat limmudim and we look forward to seeing their leadership and teaching skills in action. On Sunday, we look forward to welcoming family and friends for Visitor’s Day! We are very excited to share the magic of camp with so many community members over the next 36 hours.

Here’s a sneak peek at what our units have been up to this week:

Nitzotzot has had a busy and fun-filled week! They danced our hearts out at the camp social and spread positivity around camp during our Kindness Games evening program. They also worked together as cabins to build edible towers, and travelled through the Australian wilderness during their safari adventure. They are looking forward to community Shabbat and Visitor’s Day on Sunday!

Lehavot had a lot of fun during their Raptor’s themed day. They also baked and decorated to their heart’s desire during their Master Chef: Cake Boss Edition evening program. And they had lots of fun exploring camp and discovering animals during their Australian safari!

Kochavim had an amazing week at camp! Campers roasted marshmallows on the campfire during their overnights, they danced their hearts out at the Bounce dance, and they enjoyed an amazing “Beach Day” We are sad to say l’hitraot (farewell) to some of the campers on Sunday, and the rest of us look forward to the last week of camp!

Barak has had a busy and exciting week! They had fun dressing up for the dance in cabin themes, and also participated in an exciting gaga tournament evening program. Their campers had the opportunity to venture off camp for our bikes and canoe trips. They are all back for community Shabbat and are looking forward to Visitor’s Day!

The CITs had a great time during their evening programs. They showed off their dance moves at Dancing with the CITs, and tried some interesting new flavors at Chopped. They are super excited for our last week of placements and to plan Banquet for the rest of camp!

Looking forward to the week ahead, on Monday August 12th, Camp George will be participating in our Second Session B’libenu move-a-thon! Campers will have the option of running or walking a 1km, 2.5km or 5km route throughout camp. The goal behind this event is to emphasize the importance of healthy, active living. In honour of their participation, we ask that you consider sponsoring a camper by making a charitable donation. All donations will be recognized on our sponsorship wall at the Finish Line.

Our goal is to raise $3,600 which will go to support building our Pavilion, the new space for sports and arts programming, and the new centre of healthy and active living at camp.

You can also support your camper by Tweeting a message, and/or image using the hashtag #CGblibenu2019. Please Tweet on Monday, August 12 by 1:00pm, so that your message can be seen on our BIG screen in the Chadar Ohel (Dining Hall) at lunchtime!
